Damage by Sue Mayfield

This book is one of the titles long listed for the Carnegie Award. The Short list is announced on Friday April 20th and I will be very disappointed if this book is not on it!
A group of friends are planning their future; universites, college, gap years and jobs. They have been to a fancy dress party, in the run-up to Christmas, so everyone is in good spirits... until, on their way home, the car they are travelling in hits a patch of ice. There is an accident, the outcome of which affects so many people. The story is told by the main characters and family members, also the car they are travelling in has it's own story to tell! It sounds a little strange but reads extremely well. Although it is not a true story, it could easily be a real life situation and I found it very moving.
A book I just couldn't put down and one I recommend others to read.

The Dalek Conquests by Nicholas Briggs

The audio book I listened to was really good. It was called The Dalek Conquests it really tells you about their history and their encounters with a man called the Doctor.
So I really did enjoy it.

The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks

I think that this book was a good fantasy read. But there was too much description, not enough action and a fair amount of dialogue. As it was a long book and had small text, it got extremely boring. However, at some points it got exciting.
In the book, there are short stabs of action but I personally need long slashes of action like in Eragon, by Christopher Paolini, this is a very good book!!! Recommend it to anyone above the age of 10 because it does get quite hard going in parts. But it’s really good.
Paolini’s quote was wrong. It should be the other way round. Paolini is true fantasy.

I would recommend this book to those of 12 and over because it’s quite complicated and the text is small. Younger children won’t stand a few pages.

But it’s al right!!!!

Mister Monday by Garth Nix

This book is extremely good. It is book one of the series and I can’t wait to read the next! It’s definitely fantasy but not as much as other books like Eragon, The Sword of Shannara and The Lord of the Rings. I think this because it is set at our time and it doesn’t have all the swords and really powerful magic. It does have magic but not in the same way. You have to think and imagine more.
This isn’t the type of book that you could read in large, noisy crowds because you need to take in every little detail to be able to understand the story. It is really confusing at the beginning but towards the middle you start to understand what everything means. What I found confusing was the 7 keys, 7 days, 7 levels, the noon, dusk, dawn and the will. But it all came to me later in the book.
I would recommend it to people over 12 because it’s quite a heavy read. Otherwise, it’s really good and people should read all the others!!!

“May the will be done”!!!
